The worst part is that there's really nothing there to strangle. Spam bots are just programs set up to 'advertise' by registering on forums and posting unrelated crap that they want to promote, regardless of the Forum or Sub Forum's topic. What makes me sick are the people who start them in the first place.

We should see if we could get an Authenticator like type the phrase in the box exactly as it appears when signing up or an email confirmation required authentication. I am sure that would help a little bit.

My personal favorite is the "secret question" authentication system. For example since SoCalAirsoft's website redesign, in order to register for a forum account you have to answer "Who was the governor of California in 1963?". A question easily answered by quick research on google or wikipedia, not so easy for bots though.  ...For now, until some douche writes a script for that too!  |

Couldn't we set it so if an account isn't active on so many days they are deleted or the person has to reactivate the account which i'm assuming bots couldn't do?

That's a really good point, but then again. Like Khazzy said if someone can't use google to find that answer do we really want them around?  Not saying I or any of us are "elitists" but something common to the area would probably be very effective. Like "who was the worst coach of Nebraska's college football team ever?" pretty much anyone who lives within 150 miles of this state should know that lol! |

I'll be honest, I dont know the answer to that question and I follow Nebraska football decently close..... Now if you said Who was the Best coach in NE College Football history, that'd be easy enough  |
