Haven't heard much talk about the new indoor airsoft field being built on the second level of Family Fun Center at 72nd and Dodge. I checked it out this week and it's still under construction but looks like it has potential. Can't find any information on when it's planning to open, or any info on rules / equipment / prices.... Anyone know the inside scoop?

Whaaa??? News to me... Family Fun Center is the last place I'd suspect for a CQB place to open though. I wonder what the deal is?

It is not airsoft. It is laser tag. Therefore it is by definition, gay. http://www.familyfuncenter.net/lazertag.asp

no, the one I was talking about was not this one . i am still working out some bugs to try and get it useable , but until I do I will not get anyones hopes up again. it ticked me off as well so
anyway even if this is true we would probably get stuck with the crappy guns they buy and want to rent to us due walking in that place with our guns would not be a good thing

Its not spam, the main reason i joined this forum is because i thought someone on here would know the scoop. They do have lazer tag, but there are signs posted that say 'airsoft coming soon'. and a new section under construction upstairs. No idea if u can bring ur own or if u have to rent. (sorry im typing on my ipod).

So I just got off the phone with them and have a little bit more information. It definitely IS an AIRSOFT field (not laser tag) They plan to have it open by Febuary, and the location is the area under construction that I described. It appears that they are still undecided right now about whether they will allow people to bring their own guns, but I suppose there are a number of concerns that they will have to address.

Well if they are not going to let people bring their own guns they might as well forget it. I have no desire to use some rental gun. First off I wouldn't have gear to carry extra mags for it. Second they would probably want you to use hicaps in them. The would likely charge a ridiculous rental fee. It sounds to me like this place is getting in way over its head. They serious plan to open this portion of their business in two months and they haven't made basic decisions about how they will operate. WTF? I would be greatly interested in a CQB arena, but not if it is going to be some lame add on to an already lame laser tag joint. I mean have they even decided what their velocity limits will be? This just sounds really unorganized.

Yeah I dont forsee them allowing others to bring their own guns... simply for liability sake. My assumption is that these guns will probably be low end guns (Fire power WOOO) painted 50000 shades of florescant colors and cheating will be rampant with the walk ons. Not to mention the Family Fun Center building isnt very big, especially if they already have a 2 story laser tag joint, this will be SMALL.
It would be different if it wast he entire building, but meh... I'm not exactly looking forward to CQB anyway.

ok I just got off the phone with one of the managers
it is a yes and no on airsoft for the moment, they dont know if they want to go with airsoft or paintless paintball they are going away from the honor system by buying vests that detect the paintball and airsoft bbs. money for maintenance whats cheaper etc but if they do go thepaintball route he said we would possibly be able to rent it for a day or so to play.
theme will be military installation barrels, tires etc score will be kept electronically .
our guns, they are not for sure on either due to how to get them in an fps
the owner will be back on Tuesday with more info for me but that's what i have so far i will do my best to get more info and maybe a test run

As I stated in your PM, you need to ask them to either come out to an ASN game and see what we are about, or maybe we need to get Spaulding, Echo4, Gunfather, you and myself together sometime and sit down with the owner and answer their questions. I know if we get all of us together for them we can answer just about any question they may have, even regarding legality of certain actions, etc.
I mean, I'm all for it, but I'd like to see it first. If it's at ALL like their laser tag was 6-10 years ago, (small) then even at 280 FPS people are going to be in PAIN after the game is over.
Hit detection vests? Sounds like one more thing to go wrong, but for the general public it may be a requirement. If it's large enough then maybe we could organize a game for it but I doubt it'll be large enough for the people who want to do CQB (which seems to be everyone for some strange reason), but if that where the case, for our private games at a minimum I'd like to see the hit vests go away... we at ASN can handle calling our hits, where as the public walk ons may not understand the concept.
This to me sounds like they need an established organization from both paintball in the area and airsoft in the area to make them a good solid proposal on how to run the system with their respective tools and tell them what to expect. If this involves commiting a saturday to go to Family Fun Center with some game organizers and talk with the owner and see the place they want to use, then maybe we can help them decide what route might be the best. My fear still remains that this will be far too close for any sane use for either airsoft or paintless paintball.

I think the only way this would work for what we do is if they let us rent it out for a few hours for a private game. Once they get the liability waivers, FPS limits and prices figured out this would not be too unreasonable. The problem is that insurance companies hate "projectiles".

I'm not saying this will be anybody's dream playing field (like an abandoned walmart or anything), and it won't be that exciting if you can't use your own equipment, but for the 2-3 months in Nebraska when the windchills are below zero, it would be nice to play somewhere, and lazer tag just doesn't cut it. We already have an indoor paintball field, and they do a pretty good job, but the paint gets really messy and the field is extremely slippery. Family Fun center isn't bringing in a ton of business right now, most of their machines are broke and out of order, and a lot of the games are just TV screens with an xbox or other game console hooked up to them, stuff you can play for free at home. Dance Dance Revolution has pretty much fizzled out... so actually I'd really like to see it succeed. If the indoor airsoft takes off and brings in a lot of interest, maybe they'll dedicate more space to it, and open it up for private party rentals.
