I think we can all agree that part of what makes a well rounded player is their gear and their ability to use that gear effectively. Obviously camouflage for the right setting can help you too. But part of what I would like to explore are tactics and strategies involving the use of terrain, more specifically, elevation.
I think at some point in our lives when we were younger, there was a game called "King of the Hill", which already gave us the impression that elevated positions are "better". However, another part of that game is that you always know WHO the King of the Hill is, so they stand out. Which brings me to a dilemma that I ran into at the June 27th game in Nickerson. I couldn't tell whether to take up a position overlooking my enemies or to hide myself in the hills of the terrain. Elevation also seems like it could give a boost or hurt airsoft weaponry's range. So, facts, opinions, questions, lets get all of that together. Not exactly to answer "What's Better", as I don't think such an answer exists, but just a way to brainstorm how tactics and strategies are effected by terrain.

Good to see your thinking.
The real answer is what worked last time will get you killed this time.
This game still has the "respawn" which means the dead guy knows where you are and will be looking to see if your still there.
Or worst yet for you, as soon as he respawns he call out your last known position on his radio.
So really if you have been using any cover for more than 10 minutes, you might want to move.
If you always use hills, trees, or valleys in any observed way, many here will use it against you.
Best advice is make sure all your movements seem random to an observer.
If not you will become the hunted.
Now the elevation thing.
At Nickerson elevation can get you into trouble.
The high ground cannot observe the bottom of the ditch.
If you can see the bottom of the ditch, your in range of the opposing high ground.
Thus the continous ebb and flow, Thus a great field for airsoft.
Your going to hate Rushville!

I think there is a lot of instinct involved in choosing cover. Whether you are taking cover to provide cover fire for an advance. Or to hunker down and hold the last flag. Oftentimes when on a defensive point you may NEED to stay in nearly the same position for long periods of time. It's all about finding good cover, visual or physical, that gives a good field of fire on your enemies position.

I believe fields of fire are more important then elevation. The best advice I can give is after your position is compramised move. Once folks know where you are at they are going to start moving to flank and destroy you. If you constantly move, attack, and move again you will confuse and frustrate your opposition. I always try to avoid 50-50 gun fights. If you know where I am at and I haven't hit you yet I need to be moving or suppressing you and directing one of my squad mates into a position to shoot you.
